A Forest

It’s practically a cliché to talk about being in nature as a healing or spiritual experience, and of forests as holy places. But sometimes, when looking up at a tree canopy, one can often see what looks like the vaulted arches of a cathedral, and that is partly what I’m trying to represent here. Each leaf was indeed hand drawn: I spent an evening carefully dotting away with a pencil.

The title is only partly — and very obviously — descriptive: it’s actually the title of a 1980 song by The Cure.

I wrote a blog post about how framing and exhibiting this piece makes it a complete artwork.

The Spirit of Silence

This drawing is part of a larger comics-influenced project, collectively know as The Spirit of Silence. This drawing is the first in a evolving series.
