Custom lettering: Bish! Bash! Bosh!
This graphic lettering project was designed around the idea of giving headline statements to my main areas of business activity — Web content designer, Web developer, and graphic designer — the implication being “I’ve got this covered”. The individual slang words appear in their own panels on this website’s homepage. But of course the statement “bish, bash, bosh” is a complete exclamation in its’ own right, partly popularised by Harry Enfield’s obnoxious, plasterer character Loadsamoney from the early 90s.
I’ve given each word it’s own character, but also a sense of relationship via a shared underlying geometry, and a sense of distinctive energy in the way the elements inhabit their own space. I was somewhat inspired by the shape of the statement “Filmed in Supermarionation” from the end of of Gerry Anderson’s original Thunderbirds series, because the upper and lower arcs kind of beg to be developed.

The text elements were hand drawn in pen on cartridge paper, then scanned, and painted in Photoshop. A bit of an innovation for my practice was in the texturing. I got some black ink and made various marks on cartridge paper — for example, I made prints from marker pen tops, used a sponge, and splashes from a dropper, from a height. I scanned the results, pulled them in as layers, and played with the blending modes.
Web-oriented graphic design. Section headers designed as a part of a whole poster-flyer.
