Sangharakshita centenary 1925–2025

Originally created for the cover of a monthly newsletter for members of the Triratna Buddhist Order, to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Sangharakshita (1925 – 2018), its founder. It is digitally collaged from a library of photos, sampling the span of Sangharakshita’s life and even death: there’s an arial view of his burial mound at Adhisthana retreat centre. It features rays of text built up from The White Tara mantra, Om Tare Tuttare Ture Mama Ayuh Punya Jnana Pustim Kuru Svaha, often used to invoke healing, long life, wisdom, and merit. The word “bhante” is a respectful Pali term for Buddhist monks, nuns, and other respected figures, particularly in the Theravada tradition, often translated as “Venerable” or “Venerable Sir”.
