Picture editing is both the process of choosing suitable illustrations, and of manipulating them digitally in software like Adobe Photoshop. In the first case it is an aesthetic judgement that looks at both the compositional and technical merits of an image, as well the meanings a viewer could reasonably be said to read into it.
